What does the endocrine system effect in the cells to work?
What is lag time?
Which has a longer effect on the body from one signal the endocrine system or the nervous system? And how is this so?
Any Help Will By Greatly Appreciated. I am having a study party and no one can figure out these three problems =)

Best answer:

The endocrine has differing effects on different cells. For example, insulin affects liver cells causing them to increase the number of protein chanels on their cell surface so as to take up more glucose… this is achieved by binding of the insulin molecule to receptors on the liver cells.

Lag time is the time it takes for an effect.

The nervous system will have a faster effect as a signal can be sent from the brain to the toes in less than 1 second, but the effect is short lived. With the endocrine system it may take a few seconds at fastest to reach the desired site of action, but as the chemical is in the blood it will take atleast several minutes to be removed and so will have a longer lasting effect.
